Climate Controlled Self Storage

Needed a place to put some stuff in a pinch and the process to get it lease and ready to put my stuff in was so easy so smooth and I was able to complete everything within the hour. The customer service was amazing and it was never busy when I needed to get anything in or out of my unit. The move out process was straightforward and I have no complaints. Would recommend to anyone.

One of the best storage units I’ve rented with, the building is always secure and super clean. The manager Miki is always so helpful and kind too! Would recommend this place to anyone.

- Sophia Rubino

Miki is awesome! Every time I stop by, she’s super friendly and always ready to help with whatever anyone needs. She’s hands‑on, quick, and makes the whole facility better. Really appreciate her!!!

Miki is the only reason I’m leaving a 5 star review. She’s AMAZING, very helpful, goes out of her way to be kind, thoughtful and always willing to help problem solve!! For her 5-5. For the unit and company itself 1-5; my unit has been broken into once, they’ve changed their policy on locks and made me buy theirs twice, without notice. Again without notice, they indiscriminately raise rental rates and have done so numerous times since I’ve had my things stored there in the last 2 years. Their computer customer service is AWFUL, frustrating and a waste of time. Going there during business hours to ask Miki in person is the only way to get anything resolved! Again, she’s fantastic, especially considering who she works for!

- Kelli

Miki is great. She really helped me out the other day. The staff here are always helpful . This is one of the best storage facilities I've ever used. And I've used a lot of other storage places. Clean, fair prices, and accessable. Thanks Midgard!

- Cat Butler

The property manager at the Denver location is super nice and helpful. After some questions about pricing, Lex from customer service reached and really clarified how it works. She was very helpful and really come to my mind about any possible pricing adjustments in the future. The building is very clean, access is easy and parking is very easy. There are hand carts available for moving and the elevators work well.

- Rachel N

It's a safemand clean storage facility, Miki is awesome as the manager there, she males sure everything is clean and operational. She also manages the property extremely well. She knows all of the customers and their units. She is very friendly and very helpful.

What is Climate Controlled Self Storage?

When it comes to protecting your belongings, not all storage options are created equal. Some items require more than just space to sit, they need a stable, regulated environment to prevent damage caused by heat, cold, humidity or dry air.

That's where climate controlled self-storage comes in. At its core, climate-controlled storage is a type of storage unit designed to maintain consistent temperature and humidity levels year-round. These specialized storage units are typically housed inside insulated buildings with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

The goal is to shield your valuables from extreme temperature swings and excess moisture, which can cause warping, cracking, rusting, and other damage. Let's take a closer look at what climate-controlled storage units offer, what items they protect best, and why you might need one.

How Does Climate Controlled Storage Work?

Unlike standard storage units, which are often exposed to outdoor temperatures and weather conditions, climate control storage units are located inside enclosed buildings. These spaces are equipped with systems that regulate the internal environment, usually keeping temperatures between 55°F and 80°F.

Many also maintain optimal humidity levels to prevent excess moisture in the air. This level of protection is especially valuable in areas that experience extreme seasonal shifts or consistently humid climates. Whether it's the height of summer or the middle of winter, a climate-controlled storage unit keeps your items in a safe, stable environment.

What Can You Store in Climate Controlled Units?

While you can technically store almost anything in climate-controlled storage, certain items benefit from this type of environment far more than others. If you're storing anything sensitive to heat, cold, or humidity, a climate controlled self-storage unit is highly recommended.

Common items that need climate control:

  • Wooden furniture: Protects against cracking, splitting, or warping caused by humidity and temperature changes.
  • Electronics: Prevents damage from moisture buildup and heat.
  • Artwork: Preserves paintings, photographs, and collectibles from warping, fading, and mold.
  • Important documents: Keeps paper crisp, legible, and free from mildew.
  • Musical instruments: Shields against cracking wood, rusted metal parts, and stretched strings.
  • Leather goods: Prevents cracking, mildew, and discoloration.
  • Household appliances: Maintains electrical components in optimal condition.
  • Antiques and collectibles: Preserves value by protecting against environmental damage.
  • Wine collections: Maintains consistent temperature and humidity, ideal for long-term storage.

Why Choose Climate Controlled Storage?

Climate Control is Essential in the Southeast
In the high-humidity corridors of states like Alabama, Arkansas, and North Carolina, relative humidity can often exceed 70%. Without humidity regulation, items like wooden furniture and electronics are at risk of mold and internal corrosion. Midgard's climate-controlled units manage both temperature and relative humidity, providing the environment your valuables deserve in the unique southern climate.

Protection from Temperature Extremes
In many parts of the country, temperatures can fluctuate wildly between seasons. In the height of summer, non-climate controlled units can reach well over 100°F, while winters can plunge below freezing. These extremes can wreak havoc on temperature-sensitive items. Climate-controlled storage units keep conditions steady, regardless of what's happening outside.

Humidity Control
Moisture in the air is a leading cause of mold, mildew, rust, and corrosion. Climate control storage facilities often include humidity management as part of their system, keeping relative humidity within a safe range. This is crucial for items like paper, fabrics, electronics, and wood.

Cleaner, Enclosed Environment
Because climate-controlled storage units are typically located inside buildings, they tend to stay cleaner than outdoor units. There's less dust, dirt, and debris, plus added protection from pests like insects and rodents.

Peace of Mind
Knowing your valuables are stored in a regulated, secure, and monitored environment provides added reassurance, especially for long-term storage. Whether you're preserving a family heirloom, storing business inventory, or safeguarding seasonal gear, climate controlled self-storage gives you confidence your belongings are protected.

Is Climate Controlled Storage Worth It?

While climate-controlled storage units generally cost a bit more than traditional storage, many customers find the added protection well worth the investment. If you're storing items of sentimental or financial value, or anything that could be damaged by temperature fluctuations or humidity, the small additional monthly cost can save you from costly repairs or irreversible damage down the road.

Ask yourself:

  • Are my belongings sensitive to heat, cold, or moisture?
  • Will I be storing these items for an extended period?
  • Am I storing irreplaceable items like family keepsakes, antiques, or legal documents?
  • Is the climate in my area especially humid, hot, or cold?

If you answered yes to any of these, climate-controlled storage near you is likely the ideal solution.
